Saturday 1st August 2015 saw by my estimate 500 plus people witness six brave teams enter the Fareham Raft Race 2015. This local event in in aid of local charities.
Their website & where the race is held can be found here;
Being a local resident myself I took myself & the better half along to record this fun event.
And fun it certainly was, with last years winners talking about sabotaging the other competitors vessels.
Fortunately for their adversaries they got their own comeuppance when they capsized well before getting anywhere even near the start line. The winners cup was lost to the sea and will have to be searched for at the next low tide as it was attached to the sunk raft.
The crowds lined the pathway running right along the mariner with a perfect view of the course which took some competitors 20 minutes to complete.
Gosport & Fareham Inshore Rescue Service were on stand-by in case of emergency.
However, the only thing in need of help were sections of broken off raft.
The whole event took just over an hour but for those that turned up early enough prior to the start much community spirit was evident from 10am when the signing in opened.
The Castle in The Sky pub not 50 yards from the mariner was having a open day with their own event Festival in the Air , their Facebook page is here;
For those here looking for photos of the event I have uploaded some to the side of this blog.
